Guided TripsGuided Trips with Chagrin River Outfitters
Chagrin River Outfitters offers a variety of fishing trips that any outdoor enthusiast
will go crazy over.
Ohio Steelhead Trout
Steelhead fishing is popular in Ohio.
Anglers from throughout the Midwest come to target the Ohio
steelhead from fall through spring, as weather and conditions permit.
Approximately 400,000 steelhead are released annually in the Rocky, Chagrin, Grand
Rivers and Conneaut Creek, making for strong fall and spring runs of steelhead.
Stream anglers can expect an average Steelhead to be 25 inches long and
weigh 5-6 pounds. Larger fish measure in the 28-31 inch range and weigh 8-12
pounds. Most of the larger fish are caught later in November through April as
the fish stage for the annual spring spawning run.
The most common technique used for Ohio Steelhead is nymphing or dead drifting egg patterns, nymphs, and wooly buggers under a strike indicator with a 10 foot 7 or 8 weight rod. Another option that is catching on quick is swinging big streamer patterns on sink tips for the fresher more aggressive fish, but make sure your holding on tight as a good streamer grab can take the rod from your hands.
